I’m going through something of a phase where I’m tired of the sound of my own voice. Don’t worry, it’ll pass. Or: Apologies, it’ll pass. Either way.
I have some thoughts on why, but telling you about them … well, I’m sure you see the dilemma that poses.
So for now let me just give over to the dependable brilliance of Brother Cornel, filtered through the troglodyte stare of Anderson Cooper, and presented by the humane northern gaze of David Doel. Six minutes.
Cornel West Explains Protests By Ripping The Mask Off America
There’s almost nothing more that needs to be said. The ‘race question’ is given its moldy due. But the frame is the class struggle and the rigged game that keeps people from rising above it.
There’s another recent Doel episode, the one with Van Jones, that casts a bright side light on what Dr. West is saying. I almost screenshotted on it, but the heart of the piece was a 2016 poll of the electorate, in which roughly half of Trump fans agreed that blacks were more violent, lazy, rude, and so on.
Ugly but predictable, right?
Unfortunately for the race side of the class war, about 20 or 25 percent of Bernie voters said the same. I couldn’t have predicted that part.
Voters for Hillary, Cruz, and Kasich fell into the middle ground of those numbers.
I would fume theatrically, but see above.
Just watch Cornel. He has it down and he has it right.
I’ll be back.
