The best of us and the rest of us were up at the newly expanded Rim of the grand canyon. They were doing it wrong, the expansion I mean. <\/p>\n
But they did have one good little coffee place plus bookstore, and on a shelf prominently displayed was a big picture book about a magical place where they were doing it right. <\/p>\n
It was called the Arenas Valley and that’s a place in the real world, even though its nowhere near as magical in real life as it was in the dream.<\/p>\n
So I drove<\/em> us there of course, and what I found was a revelation. <\/p>\n The book had told how Arenas had become a net alternative-energy supplier. <\/p>\n The revelation was about what that abundance had in turn produced.<\/p>\n Crumbling hotels restored to past glory, but as indoor farmer’s markets.<\/p>\n Mostly inhabited by artisans instead of farmers.<\/p>\n There were philosophers too.<\/p>\n From Cynics to Socialists.<\/p>\n A world that should be instead of the one we have, even if only a fool would say that.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" The best of us and the rest of us were up at the newly expanded Rim of the grand canyon.
